Clarify My task is to find a suitable house for Ms Afonso to live in. I have to calculate how much the house will cost including tiling, carpeting, skirting, labour by tradespeople and house price etc. Once I've worked out the total price I have to write Ms Afonso a letter giving her the reasons for the decisions that I made about her home and the amount of building equipment that will be required in order for the labourers to begin work as soon as possible.

Assumptions · The House will cost $115,000 to build including the land · The rooms that aren't given measurements in the floor plan can be estimated · Each border tile is 1m² Choose To Solve this problem I'm going to have to find a suitable house on the home world website. Once I've found a house I need to use the measurements given on the house floor plan to work out the costs of covering that area with either carpet or tiles. If I choose carpet I need to put skirting around the edges and if I use tiles I need to put a tiled border around the edges. The steps I need to follow to solve this problem are as followed: · Choose house floor plan (http://www.homeworld.com.au/index1.html) · Work out the area and perimeter of all the rooms · Make up appropriate measurements for the rooms that don't have measurements and work out the area for those · Work out all the costs from the floor plan using the prices on the assignment sheet · Draw up a table · Add the costs of everything to the table · Add the price of the house to the total of the floor coverings · Write a letter to Ms Afonso telling her the price I came up with for the total of the house and floor coverings Use Area Room Area Carpet/Tile Price Labour Rumpus 8.64 x 4.38 = 37.8432 37.8432 / 3.66 x $59 = $610.05 37.8432 x $10 = $378.43 Family 6.60 x 6.07 = 40.062 40.062 x $14 = $560.87 40.062 x $22 = $881.36 Kitchen/Meals 3.18 x 6.60 = 20.988 20.988 x $14 = $293.83 20.988 x $22 = $461.74 Living 5.76 x 3.81 = 21.9456 21.9456 / 3.66 x $59 = $353.80 21.9456 x $10 = $219.47 Dining 3.44 x 3.00 = 10.32 10.32 / 3.66 x $59 = $166.40 10.32 x $10 = $103.20 Bathroom 3.30 x 1.96 = 6.468 6.468 x $14 = $90.55 6.468 x $22 = $142.30 Laundry 1.23 x 1.96 = 2.4108 2.4108 x $14 = $33.75 2.4108 x $22 = $53.04 Bed 1 4.17 x 3.50 = 14.595 14.595 / 3.66 x $59 = $235.27 14.595 x $10 = $145.95 Bed 2 3.37 x 2.70 = 9.099 9.099 / 3.66 x $59 = $146.67 9.099 x $10 = $90.99 Bed 3 3.18 x 3.07 = 9.7626 9.7626 / 3.66 x $59 = $157.37 9.7626 x $10 = $97.67 Bed 4 3.18 x 3.05 = 9.699 9.699 / 3.66 x $59 = $156.35 9.699 x $10 = $96.99 Ensuite 1.40 x 1.44 = 2.016 2.016 x $14 = $28.22 2.016 x $22 = $44.35 Perimeter Room Perimeter Border/Skirting Price Labour Rumpus 8.64 + 4.38 = 13.02 13.02 x $6 = $78.12 13.02 x $10 = $130.20 Family 6.60 + 6.07 = 12.67 12.67 x $14 = $177.38 12.67 x $22 = $278.74 Kitchen/Meals 3.18 + 6.60 = 9.78 9.78 x $14 = $136.92 9.78 x $22 = $215.16 Living 5.76 + 3.81 = 9.57 9.57 x $6 = $57.42 9.57 x $10 = $95.70 Dining 3.44 + 3.00 = 6.44 6.44 x $6 = $38.64 6.44 x $10 = $64.40 Bathroom 3.30 + 1.96 = 5.26 5.26 x $14 = $73.64 5.26 x $22 = $115.72 Laundry 1.23 + 1.96 = 3.19 3.19 x $14 = $44.66 3.19 x $22 = $70.18 Bed 1 4.17 + 3.50 = 7.67 7.67 x $6 = $46.02 7.67 x $10 = $76.70 Bed 2 3.37 + 2.70 = 6.07 6.07 x $6 = $36.42 6.07 x $10 = $60.70 Bed 3 3.18 + 3.07 = 6.25 6.25 x $6 = $37.50 6.25 x $10 = $62.50 Bed 4 3.18 + 3.05 = 6.23 6.23 x $6 = $37.38 6.23 x $10 = $62.30 Ensuite 1.40 + 1.44 = 2.84 2.84 x $14 = $39.76 2.84 x $22 = $62.48 Rooms Floor CoveringFloor Covering Costs Labour Costs Skirting - Border Costs Labour Costs Total Rumpus Carpet $610.05 $378.43 $78.12 $130.20 $1196.80 Family Tiles $560.87 $881.36 $177.38 $278.74 $1898.35 Kitchen/Meals Tiles $293.83 $461.74 $136.92 $215.16 $1107.65 Living Carpet $353.80 $219.47 $57.42 $95.70 $726.39 Dining Carpet $166.40 $103.20 $38.64 $64.40 $372.64 Bathroom Tiles $90.55 $142.30 $73.64 $115.72 $422.21 Laundry Tiles $33.75 $53.04 $44.66 $70.18 $208.15 Bed 1 Carpet $235.27 $145.95 $46.02 $76.70 $503.94 Bed 2 Carpet $146.67 $90.99 $36.42 $60.70 $334.78 Bed 3 Carpet $157.37 $97.67 $37.50 $62.50 $355.04 Bed 4 Carpet $156.35 $96.99 $37.38 $62.30 $353.02 Ensuite Tiles $28.22 $44.35 $39.76 $62.48 $174.81 Grand Total $7,653.78 House Price $115,000 + Floor Price $7653.78 = $122,653.78 Interpret According to my calculations the complete cost of the house is $122,653.78. This includes the price of the land, the house, the carpet, the tiles and the labour for laying the tiles and carpet.

In my assumptions I said that the border tiles were each 1m². This was probably an inappropriate assumption to make because there aren't many tiles that are this big and if there were they would be very difficult to lay and would not be the right size for a tiled border. The reason I did it this way was to make it easier to work out.

My final answer of $122,653.78 is reasonable because it is a fairly good priced house that many people would be willing to pay for.
