"A Modest Proposal" introduces an Ireland overloaded with economic problems all over. A big percentage of its inhabitants are on the street begging for any amount of food and the littlest amount of money. The country has many people without a home including victims of domestic violence surrounded with the true meaning of poor. This image of a broken down Ireland fails in comparison to the state of affairs in the United States, for the U.S. provides shelters for the homeless, therapy for domestic violence victims, and has a different definition of of poor.

In the U.S., we have shelters for people who need them no matter the age. Swift's essay states that Ireland's people could see "the streets, the roads and cabbin-doors crowded with beggars" (Swift 1). In these shelters, the workers provide the needed with food, water, and a place to sleep overnight to keep that from happening.

Although, some shelters have limits on how much you can stay in a row, they will accept you back after a certain period of time. These shelters aren't the only thing we have to help people.

Domestic violence is the third leading factor to homelessness, but therapy is available as an option to help this from happening. A good therapist should be able to help both sides, the attacker and victim, of the problem. If both parties cooperate with the instructions given by the therapist, the results will show improvement. Once, the therapy is over the victims should feel safe, and the attacker should not want to hurt the victim "nor offer to beat or kick them." (Swift 4).

Our definition of poor isn't the same as the one described in Swift's essay at all. Our definition can be seen as not being able...
