In this poem, Hughes writes about a mother speaking to her son about life's experiences. He uses the metaphor of a crystal stair. She is telling him how she has struggled in life.
She let's her son know that life is going have ups and down.

English: "Today I sang a concert of Langston Hughe...Some days are going to seem darker than other's but you have to deal with them and over come them. I love this poem so much. Just reading it gave me chills.
Langston Hughes is just incredible. This poem has so much meaning, life is full of surprises and not all of them are going to be great. But with time you learn with every situation life gives you and in a way you mature or grow strong from them.
Langston Hughes poem is very effective. He brings his point right across in this poem. Mostly likely the woman in the poem was a strong Black woman.
