Beauty when the Other Dancer is the Self

Alice Walker's essay "Beauty: When the Other Dancer Is the Self," is a detailed and harrowing account of how the author's life has been affected by a childhood accident that left her disfigured and blind in one eye. Her essay is a vivid experience of a life affected by many powerful forces outside the teller's control, such as race, social class, and family dynamics, as well as cultural ideas about "beauty." The essay lets us in on the author's profoundly personal yet universal search for self acceptance and love.

In the firs paragraph Alice explain how she is a little girl and how she was a daddy's girl. She even states in her story, ``I want to go everywhere my daddy goes''.Furthermore one day on a Easter Sunday she dressed in a green,flocked,scalloped hem dress and stands up in front of a large audience ready to give a speech.

She felt confident on what she was going to said.

Furthere more Walker uses the accident that happens during her childhood to prove that one's mindset can be altered because of experience and how her attitude completely transforms from stubborn child. When she was eight years, she had a cowboy hat, boots checkered shirt and pants, his two brothers two years older than her was a playmates, all together including her's mother went to see a movie called ''Westerns''. After that hers parents decide to buy a guns for his brother these are not real guns it shoots ''BBs'' that they will used to kill birds.
