Executive Summary

The design for the network will use the Fiber optic cable. Fiber optic is glass or plastic the light travels through it. Data can be transmitted over long distances and have higher bandwidth compared to other types of cable. Fiber optic is immune to have electromagnetic interference than the metal wires a bound to happen and the signal is not loss with fiber optic cables. Total internal reflection is used to keep the light in the core of the optical fiber and acts like a waveguide. It is complicated to join the optical fibers together. The ends need to be cleaved and then spliced together; this need to be done mechanically or using an electric arc to fuse them together. To remove the connections special connectors are needed. The problem also is that Fiber optic is very expensive compared to the twisted pair and coaxial cable.

Star Topology is all nodes are connected to one central point that routes all the data from and to other points and that are connected to a hub. The Star Topology is the ideal choose for the company and the Local Area Network. The advantages are the ease of reconfiguring the network; failure in the network is easily detected but is costly with the number of cables, central node dependency, and is difficult to expand.

The Wide Area Network (WAN) is the use of existing technology to connect local computer networks. Business can be separated in different states and still be able to connect to the company's network. The local area network is a small office and the use of the WAN is connecting to a different office in another state. The use of microwave towers can help connect different departments together but the distance...
