Civilian Conservation Corps hired only men

African-American Activism

Mary McLeod Bethune- an education who promoted opportunities for young Afri-Amer

Hired by pres. To head Division on Negro Affairs of the National Youth Administration

Ensured that NYA hired Afr-Ame admin. & provided job training etc. to minority students

Helped organize "Black Cabinet" of influential Afri-Ame to advise Roosevelt admin. with racial issues

Eleanor Roosevelt helped Afri-Amer in gov't; brought about the performance from Marian Anderson 1939

Daughters of American Revolution in D.C., E. Roosevelt resigned
