North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) established a free-trade zone in North America. The trade was signed in 1992 by Canada, Mexico, and the United States and it was a continuation of the 1989 Canada-U.S. Free Trade Agreement. NAFTA went into effect on January 1, 1994 and instantaneously lowered tariffs on the majority of goods produced by the signatory nations. It also called for the gradual elimination, over a period of 15 years, of most remaining barriers to cross-border investment and to the movement of goods and services among the three countries. Other purposes of NAFTA was to promote conditions of fair competition in the free trade area, increase substantially investment opportunities in the territories of the Parties, provide adequate and effective protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights in each Party's territory and establish a framework for further trilateral, regional and multilateral cooperation to expand and enhance the benefits of the Agreement .

In this paper I will primarily be stating back to my title and demonstrate why is or not worth to do business with Mexico under NAFTA using the truck industry. The history of NAFTA direct related to truck crossings will be point out , data concerning the volume and the increase in trade since NAFTA started, information from the Department of Transport (DOT) regarding regulations on truck entering the U.S, the documents required to enter the U.S as a commercial truck driver and as a citizen, all ports of entries an departures for commercial trucks and the most occupied ports of entries and the number of truck crossing in each port in the fiscal year of 2003.
