Notes on Shakespeare's Macbeth

Act 1 Scene 1:Characters: First Witch, Second Witch, Third WitchSettings: A deserted place with thunder and lightningEvents: The three witches decide to meat again after the sounds of the battle are over and one side has won and the other side has lost. They decide to meat Macbeth there.

Questions: What is the importance of the witches in this scene?Items of interest: The witches have familiars. I remember watching this in "Sabrina the Teenage Witch", but I didn't think that a familiar was a common thing with witches.

Act 1 Scene 2:Characters: Duncan, Malcolm, Sergeant, Lennox, RossSettings: A camp that is near Forres, a town in northern Scotland.

Events: Malcolm and Duncan talk to the captain about what happened in the war. Ross and Lennox come in. Macbeth gets Cawdor's titles.

Questions: What was the point of the talk with the captain? Why does Macbeth get all of Cawdor's titles?Items of interest: Saint Colme's Inch seems like an important part of the book.

Act 1 Scene 3:Characters: First Witch, Second Witch, Third Witch, Macbeth, Banquo, Ross, Angus,Settings: A heath with thunderEvents: The first Witch talks about what she will do to the sailor. Banquo and Macbeth find the Witches and ask then who they are. They predict Macbeth's future, and then Banquo asks then to predict his. They do. The Witches disappear when Macbeth asks them to tell him more. Ross and Angus come in. Macbeth becomes the Thane of Cawdor because the old Thane was sentenced to death.

Questions: What acts of treason did the old Thane of Cawdor commit?Items of interest: The witches were right about Macbeth. Either they know the future, or it was a wild guess.

Act 1 Scene 4:Characters: Duncan, Malcolm, Macbeth, Banquo, Ross, AngusSettings: Forres. The palace.

Events: Malcolm becomes king of Cumberland. Macbeth...
