Abstract

Most common operating systems are the Windows series, Mac OS X, and Linux. These systems connect to the Internet and use security features unique to each system. Comparison will be made for each OS ease of use and security. These three operating systems have been chosen because of their popularity around the world. Microsoft Windows is the most popular operating system followed by Mac OS X and Linux ("OS Statistics", 1999-2012).

The Windows series is the most popular Operating system in 2012 holding more than 80% of the votes ("OS Statistics", 1999-2012). This makes Windows the premier OS for businesses and personal use. Windows 7 particularly has features that add to the security like Windows Defender, Windows Firewall, User Account Control (UAC), Action Center, and Windows Update ("An Overview Of Windows 7 Security", 2003-2012).

Windows Defender defends the computer against spyware and other malicious software. This feature does not only protect from software downloaded from the Internet but also from removable media like, USB drive, CD, or DVD. This feature will run automatically once activated. This security feature also scans the PC to check for discrepancies that may have attack the computer. This feature can be set-up at a time convenient for the user that does not interfere with high usage times. ("An Overview Of Windows 7 Security", 2003-2012)

Windows Firewall is a barrier between the PC and the Internet, blocking hackers, viruses, and malicious entities that may attack the PC. This feature prevents the user's computer from attacks and prevents from send the infection to others. ("An Overview Of Windows...
