Organizational Behavior Terminology and Concepts Paper

Organizational behavior (OB) is the study of the behavior of individuals and groups within an organization. OB concentrates on the interaction between individuals to help explain what goes on within the organization and more importantly answer the question why. In an effort to understand fully OB individuals must evaluate the three levels within the organization: the individual, group and the organization as a whole (Jones and George, 2005).

Organizational behaviors are prevalent within XYZ, my employer. The Human Resources (HR) Department is consistently trying to develop ways to capture the knowledge about how people, individuals, and groups think, feel, and act in organizations. One of the ways HR is trying to gather information is through the mentor programs, which was develop to assist with promoting positive behaviors.

Organizational culture

At XYZ Inc. one of the primary responsibilities of the strategic leaders is to create and maintain the organizational characteristics that reward and encourage collective efforts.

Some aspects of the organization culture are invisible such as employee attitudes, assumptions and beliefs. Others are visible such as an organization's artifacts such as how employees dress, our products, marketing publications and employee behaviors such as hiring and firing practices, and employee training. XYZ has developed a set of core values that employees are suppose to use as a model to structure how they think and act towards each other including clients. The core values are called the Express Way and all employees are expected to know and promote these values.
