Susan Eloise Hinton

Susan Eloise Hinton was born on July 22nd 1948, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She is an amazing writer of novels for young adults. Susan is known for writing moving novels about teenagers who face such problems as violence, drug abuse, poverty, and alcohol. Hinton is best known for writing "The Outsiders" a coming of age story about to rival gangs, the Socials, and the Greasers. The Outsiders is an amazing story filled with hart warming moments that will make you never want to put the book down.

Hinton is from Oklahoma, in fact, most of her novels are based there. Hinton's best-known book "The Outsiders," was written when Susan was at the age of only 16, and was published in 1967. The book is a story of two rival gangs, the Socials, and the Greasers.

The book is noted for its believable character's, action-packed plot, and realistic language. The Outsiders is a coming of age novel, based in 1965.

Some say she was 15 and others say she was 16 when the book was written. The book was based on a friend of Hinton's who was jumped. This upset her so much that she decided to write a book, little did she know it would be one of the best known books ever written. "The Outsiders struck an immediate chord on its readers," Said the Chicago Tribune. In Ponyboy's world there are two types of people; the Socials, who are the rich kids who get away with almost anything, and the greasers, like Ponyboy who are not so lucky.
