Think for a second that you are against abortion. Now put yourself in the shoes of a father or relative of a woman who was raped or a young teenager who was impregnated by her boyfriend. Would you still be against it then? It is easy to be against something that has never affected your life. You can say abortion is murder and it is wrong, but it is a choice women have the right to make. Whether or not to have an abortion is a decision women have to make based on their own beliefs. The decision should not be a legal issue: it is an ethical one.

In the United States, many unwanted pregnancies are the result of rape. Statistics show that 1.3 women are raped every minute. That results in 78 rapes each hour, 1872 rapes each day, 56,160 rapes each month and 683,280 rapes each year.

Imagine how many women become pregnant from these rapes. Having a baby is a life-changing experience; it is bringing someone into the world. You conceive life with a person you love, not with violent lunatics who have countless problems. Women should be able to choose whether they want to raise a baby who was unwanted and made out of pain, or if they feel that it would not be right to do so.

Suppose a young woman goes out to a singles bar and has one too many drinks. A guy sitting next to her takes advantage of the situation and takes her back to his place. Three months later she discovers she is pregnant and does not even know the name of the father. Or perhaps a high school freshmen girl has a crush on senior and she makes a poor decision because she wants him to like...
