An Oscar is an acemedy award that is given out year to honor the best movie, actors, actresses, and directors. Tom Hanks is an actor, Tom Hanks Has done many movies like: Bachelor Party and Splash in the 1980's to Philadelphia and Forrest Gump in the 1990's to the Polar Express in 2004. Through out his career Tom Hanks wasn't looked at being a serious actor until he won first Oscar for Philadelphia.

After, Tom Hanks won his first Oscar for Philadelphia doors were opening in Hollywood for Tom Hanks. Now since Tom Hanks achieved the Oscar he was looked at as being serious lead actor. All of the movie critics were very interested to see what would follow up to Philadelphia. Then finally it was released and came the almighty saying "Life is like a box of chocolates you never know what you get" Forrest Gump was hitting the theaters.

Forrest Gump was a box office hit and Tom Hanks the very next year won the Oscar for Forrest Gump.

The movie Philadelphia wasn't supposed to be box office hit or even win an Oscar. The movie critics stated that this will be the end of Tom Hank's career. The movie had controversial issues. The movie critics said that the entire movie was about having AIDS, being gay and society would not accept Philadelphia. The movie critics were proven wrong about the movie Phildelphia.When Tom Hanks made Forrest Gump he was again critized by Hollywood movie critics for the upcoming movie. The movie critics said it is lacking interest you can't possibly follow the Oscar winning performance of Philadelphia with this movie.
