Saturn is the second largest planet in the solar system. Because Saturn is bigger than Earth, you would weigh more on Saturn. If you weigh 100 pounds on Earth you would weigh 112 on Saturn. The Romans gave the planet Saturn its name after their god of agriculture. Saturn is 74,899 miles wide (120,535 kilometers wide). It takes Saturn ten hours and forty minutes to complete one single rotation, isn't that cool! One day on Saturn is only ten hours long, ours is twenty-four hours long. Thirty years here on Earth is one year on Saturn.

Saturn is the only planet in our solar system that is less dense then water. Saturn does not have a solid surface, it is liquid. Saturn's atmosphere it made up of a mixture of gasses that surround the planet. The storms on Saturn have very high winds. The winds in the upper atmosphere of Saturn are stronger and faster than our most powerful hurricane force winds here on Earth. These winds, along with the heat that rises from Saturn's interior, are what cause the yellow and gold bands that we can see from Earth. Did you know, when your on Earth you can see Saturn as a yellowish object? The temperature near the tops of the cloud surface on Saturn reach -275 degrees Fahrenheit.

Saturn has about 47 moons or more that are made of rock and ice. It is said that meteors probably hit Saturn's moons. The largest of Saturn's moons is named Titan. Titan is larger than the planet Mercury. Titan is the second largest moon in our Solar System. Titan's atmosphere is orange. We cannot see the surface of Titan because of the thick atmosphere.
