Introduction
Statement of the problem
By the end of the World War II, a kind of ambiguity and confusion affected the world in different fields of studies. One of those fields was philosophy and in advance literature. Nietzsche as a philosopher in this era opened a new outlook toward the world and its existence by his famous motto that "God is dead". Later by the school of Modernism and Postmodernism human beings started to ask the very meaning of the truth about their being and the being of the world, by asking "What is the truth"? Later philosophers such as Derrida and Heidegger analyzed the matter completely.
Heidegger's main objective in his book , Being and Time is to make clear the meaning of being that James Joyce (the great 20th century figure in literature) in his famous book, The Portrait Of The Artist As a Young Man devoted most of his life effort on the human nature and its being in the world. So we become aware that how Heidegger's ideas would be applied on the novel and how the events in the novel affect the characters and their life.
Purpose of the Study
