Facts of the President

Terms of office- The President can serve two terms of four years, but if he is not elected again for the second term he only serves four years.

How Chosen- Since our government is a Democracy(citizens vote for their leaders) the citizens of America all vote for the President. Then whoever gets the majority of votes in each state gets that states electoral votes. Whoever gets the majority of electoral votes wins the Presidency. You must get 270 electoral votes to gain the majority.

When Inaugurated- The new President is inaugurated on the same date every president is inaugurated and that is January 20th.

Qualifications of the President- There are three qualifications to be the President of the United States and they are you must be at least 35 years old, you must be born in the U.S.A., and you must have lived in the U.S.

for at least 14 years.

Salary- The annual salary of the President is $400,000 dollars per year. The Vice President's salary is $186,300.

Oath of Office- "I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of the President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the constitution of the United States."

Order of Succession- If anything happens to the President while he is in office there is an Order of Succession of the people who will take over the Presidency that starts with the Vice President, then the Speaker of the House, leading to President Pro Tem, Secretary of State, and finally other Cabinet positions.o
