The United States of America, the land of the free, and here you have the right to choose how you want to live. But, what if you aren't educated enough to understand how to live a healthy life? Then you don't really have that choice, do you? Knowledge is power, and with obesity levels rising in the United States, one begins to wonder if Americans have the knowledge to live a healthy lifestyle. In today's society where you can't watch television without seeing commercials for new exercise programs, and diet pills you would think that people in America must care about their weight, and living healthy. It all starts with education, if one isn't educated on how to be healthy, one will probably not be healthy. Sounds like a pretty simple idea doesn't it? Then how come Physical Education classes aren't considered important enough to be an everyday class in a lot of our K-12 schools? The first step towards a healthier America needs to be education, if children are taught early how to live a healthy life, chances are they will.

Obesity in America is becoming a major problem. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in 2000, 400,000 deaths occurred due to poor diet, and physical inactivity. That's only 35,000 less than caused by tobacco related deaths, which is the leading cause of death in America (Reuters 2004). With the death rate of obesity being so high how come we haven't seen any major change in the way Americans live? It is because Americans are not educated enough on the subject. No one wants to be overweight or obese, but people don't understand that every little thing that you do could help fight this problem or make it worse. How often do you see people...
