Brecht's plays successfully present a social or political message. Brechtian techniques make the audience a critical observer who must make decisions. To watch a Brechtian piece is to follow through the process of the play, instead of the outcome. His didactic, meaning to teach, methods of expressing the plays include the means such as historification and alienation which tries to remove the emotion and attachment from the scene such as; "The organ starts again to play Chopin's Funeral March in dance rhythm"(Pg. 5, The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui). All suspense is to be broken throughout his plays, which is usually accomplished by music or singing. The play, The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui, is one that shows these techniques in great detail. The 1941 play, based in the 1930s, parodies of the rise of Hitler which, through the use of historification, is told as a story about a Gangster leader.

The play expresses the theme of the corruption of mankind and man's ability to be manipulated. Throughout his plays, there are many theatrical devices that Brecht utilised to make his plays one of the most interesting types of acting due to its differences to regular acting. Brecht used the corruption of mankind and its ability to be manipulability as his political message in this play.

Epic Theatre is quite a unique type of theatre using many unorthodox methods, that would seem unusual to most spectators. The main impact is placed on the audience were they are told what will happen before each scene as to cut out suspense; "The Announcer steps before the curtain.
