Executive Summary

Learning Team B, have had the opportunity to complete service request SR-rm-001 for Riordan Manufacturing Inc. by gathering information regarding ways of increasing the effectiveness of manufacturing process and inventory control. During the last four weeks the team has installed an updated centralized database for all functions covering the manufacturing process.

Learning Team B has decided to look at the current systems through both an operations and accounting view. We have come up with a process that may save Riordan Manufacturing Inc. a great deal of labour costs, reduction of overstocked inventory and all locations communicating on the same system. Moreover "in order to ensure consistency of operations and quality control at all Riordan plants, a common set of procedures has been developed for the management of receiving raw materials, tracking products during manufacturing, and accounting for the finishing good inventories."(

The hallmark of this company is based on paying attention to detail, extreme precision and enthusiastic quality control. It employees over 550 people with project annual earning of $46 million.

The company's most recent expansion took place in 2000 when it opened its operations in China. At that time, the entire fan manufacturing operation was moved from Michigan to China and the Pontiac, MI facility was retooled for the manufacture of custom plastic parts.
