Russia My report is on Russia. When researching I found out some interesting things that I didn't know before about Russia. They make up more than half of the countries population.

One religion in Russia is called the Russian Orthodox. It was the official religion. When the Communists took over all the churches were closed. The Communists told the people there was no God and tried to prevent worshiping. Today there are still some churches open. Church members are not allowed to belong to a Communist party. In school children are taught that there is no God.

There are 175 different Nationalities living within the Russian border. Many don't speak the same language. The majority of people speak Russian. Some words in Russian like "Spasebo," mean "thank you."Their letters can look the same. Like the letter "P" in English makes the sound "R" in Russian. The Russians are the largest group of people in the Soviet Union.

Russian is the third most widely spoken language, after English and Spanish. It is also one of the six official languages of the United Nations.

People in Russia dress in different ways than most of us do. Their clothes are not as well made as ours because their leaders want-Mining Machinery, Factory Equipment, and Rockets rather than well made clothes. Many of them don't have a lot of money and live in small apartments.

Russians eat a variety of different foods. They like dark rye or white, wheat bread at almost all meals. Soup, cabbage, and potatoes. Fish is usually part of most lunches and dinners. Chicken and Beef are usually favorite meals. For the meat group Fish is most popular. Potatoes accompany most main dishes. Cooked Buck wheat, called Kasha is used as a rice like side dish, as a...
