The two books I chose to compare were Lance Armstrong's It's Not about the Bike: My Journey Back to Life and J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit. They were both interesting books and had many similarities in addition to differences. It's Not about the Bike was a non fiction book while The Hobbit was fiction. However, both the main characters in the books (Lance Armstrong and Bilbo) went through changes.

Both books had very different conflicts. In Armstrong's book the main character, Lance Armstrong, was a professional bike rider who got cancer. Now he had to fight to survive. In The Hobbit the main character, Bilbo, was forced to help the Dwarves, led by Thorin, to reclaim his treasure which was stolen by the dragon Smaug. Bilbo would have to be the burglar, the person who steals the treasure. But in the story Bilbo helped in more ways than that.

The conflicts were resolved in different ways also. In Armstrong's book Lance survived cancer through chemotherapy. Yet the chemo was hard and he was always sick after a session. The treatment left Armstrong weak and most of his muscles gone. However he was determined to get back on the bike so he trained all the time and succeeded. He won the Tour De France four times, which is a race that is hard for anyone especially a former cancer patient. Now he is considered one of the top racers in the world. In The Hobbit Bilbo not only helped, but was a key member of Thorn's group. Bilbo found what the Dragon Smaug's weak spot is, he saved the dwarves from the goblins by calling Gandalf, he saved the group from elves and spiders in Mirkwood, he finds a way into the mountain, he takes the dwarves to the...
