Imagine the teeming wildlife in the Serengeti Plains of South Africa. zebras, wildebeest, and gazelle grazing on the tall grasses as they watch for predatory animals that may be lurking in the distance planning out an attack. Then the majestic herd of African elephants crashing through the brush and bellowing at nearby lions on their way to the watering hole. Also, the thunderous sound of rhinoceroses valiantly defending their feeble children with their formidable horns. To say the least, the animals of Africa's plains, savannas, and rivers can cause the daydreamer to drift into a wonderful place of serene tranquility. However, imagine the crack of an illegal hunter's rifle as he claims another trophy for his recreational room, or the sound of deforesting machinery making room for Africa's newest cities. These are some of the problems past, modern, and future Africa have and will experience if something is not done soon to stop it.

The conservation of wildlife is a key element of all ecosystems of the world, and should be looked upon with utmost importance.

The predation of certain species native to Africa is one of the many problems conservationists must solve in order to protect the animals. When you think of predation they think of other animals hunting each other down. It is true that this indeed happens, for example the lions of Africa hunting down animals such as wildebeest, and gazelle. The concept of the food chain comes in to character, especially in the Serengeti. The idea of a food chain is that every animal can be thought as one of the links of a chain. In a majority of food chains carnivores reside at the top and as you go lower down the food chain there are weaker carnivores, herbivores, and then eventually plants. An example...
