ADAPTATIONS TO REDUCE WATER LOSS IN TERRISTRIAL ANIMALS'

Adaptations:

Adaptations, is too modify something to make it easier or more bearable to live in and reproduce.

Behavioural adaptations:

Behaviour adaptations is the way in which an animal act in order to survive due to environmental factors.

Examples:

  • When the American Wigeon does not have good amount of food , it will take its food from the bill of an American Coot.

  • To attract fish the Snowy Egret will stand still in the water with its wings stretched out as fish art attracted to shade.

Physiological adaptations:

Are biological or physiologic alteration within the cell, or tissues, of an organism in response to an its environment which improves the ability of the organism to cope with the dynamic environment.

Examples:

  • When feeling hot elephants blood vessels in the ear dilate.

  • When humans are feeling cold the formation of goose bumps appears o the outer layer of the skin.

Structural adaptions

Structural adaptation are physical features of a n organism such as their shape,body or any other composition in their body.

Examples:

  • The hair on the body of mammals, is used to cover their skin and protect it from direct exposure to the sun or other environmental conditions.

  • The Muscles of the great white shark generate energy.

SPINIFEX HOPPING MOUSE

Appearance:

The Spinifex hopping mouse, (Notomys alexis) has large eyes and ears, oversized back feet and long tail. They can grow to approximately 7-8cm and have the life span of 4-6 years.

They move in a hopping/galloping motion.

Habitat:

They can be found in the central and western australia. They live in the sandy solid in areas of Spinifex covered sand flats and sand dunes. To avoid the heat of their habitat, their day is spent in deep, simply constructed horizontal burrows...
