Sex, Sexuality and Identity

During the modern era the term "sex" and "sexuality" have being inherently linked to the conception concerning the biological differences between the male and female body. The word sex as refers to both the physical activity of intercourse and the anatomical and physiological characteristics of the male and female bodies.

In today's society sexuality has become the central basis of knowing who we are and for forming our own sense of identity. Sex is rapidly becoming a fundamental part of our lives. Sex is more often used to express our identities rather than class, status and ethnicity.

Sexuality is about style, taste performance and personal preference. Gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, transvestite, fetishist, straight, each group has its own unique sexual tastes, preferences, styles and communities. With each belonging to a community that offers a sense of belonging, pride and political solidarity in a society that condemns such acts.

Sexuality is rapidly becoming a potent political axis where we are often exploited based on our preferences.

I was raised in homophobic society and household, but my views on a person's sexual preference defers from that of my family. I believe that a person should not be judged or characterized based on their sexual orientation but rather on the content of their character and be seen for who they are, not what they are. They should be viewed and treated as human beings and not "freaks" or "animals".

The seriousness of this situation is evident where families have disclaimed their own family members because of their sexual preference. Fathers have denied the existence of their own sons and mothers have shunned away their daughters due to their sexual preference, which therefore illustrate ignorance.

In a society where there is so much diversity, we are slowly becoming more accepting of the term...
