The united states have the highest qualified , most experienced and most diverse military force in the world. To maintain this all-volunteer force, the military must continue to draw qualified men and women from all over the nation. The military has to train and assign men and women in uniform according to the needs of the service. In doing this, the military has a responsibility to provide all service members with an environment that is free from discrimination and sexual harassment.

Naturally military services require a high level of specialized skill, a 24 hour a day commitment and readiness. It is unique profession that calls for people of exceptional commitment. Work achievement depends in large measure on the degree of trust and understanding that exists among unit members. Leaders at all levels are responsible for creating and sustaining unit cohesion. To do so, they must get rid of discrimination and harassment because these offenses weaken the special qualities essential to unit success.

Military men and women have a special bonding of trust and loyalty among them selves, and to maintain this trust and bond they have to act differently, they have to work as a team and not individuals, they have to change their individual believes, and adopt to the bigger and well structured military life. The Department of defense has guide lines for the men and women in uniform. Most of this guide lines are put in place to strength the bonding that exist between its members.

One of the most important guide line for unite cohesivness, is the Department of Defense Directive (1350.02) sexual harassment.
