How To Shoot a Jump Shot
The skill I will be introducing you to and properly teaching you is the jump shot. This easy but very technical skill is one of basketballs most important skill next to dribbling. What is a jump shot? It is defined as "a shot in basketball made by jumping into the air and releasing the ball with one or both hands at the peak of the jump" (http://www.merriam-webster.com). With that being said, a jump shot is traditionally very easy to learn but when trying to correct and/or properly do the skill it is far more complex then we think. The age range I will be teaching this skill to will be from 11 to 15 year old boys and girls.
Through out the paper we are going to discus many stages in motor learning, these main stages will be our movement pattern, eye movement/vision, classification of skills, and task analysis.
There are seven to eight stages in are task analysis that you can break down in a jump shot. Our task analysis begins with:
Ready Position
Feet shoulder with apart
Knees slightly flexed
Hands in ready position or firmly on the ball
Eyes focused on the target
Ball is raised from ready position to above head, keeping eye contact with your target
The lift off/jump

The shot
Extending shooting hand towards the basket
Release of the ball, rolling fingertips off the ball as ball leaves hand

These few steps when thought as a whole are normally broke into four brief categories, these categories...
