When I began to prepare this paper, I tried to think of a subject I feel strongly about; one my readers could ALL feel strongly about. I want to talk to you about something everyone does, may be required to do, and INDEED Should GREATLY DESIRE to do...and that is, to show up.

If you think the "GREATLY DESIRE" is a little too strong, withhold judgment till I'm done, and maybe you'll agree with me that it's not.

We all begin our showing up very early in life. In fact, our first showing up involves our moms and dads and a funny looking bird called a stork. For a very brief time after our initial showing up, we are THE absolute center of attention...but that doesn't last nearly long enough.

Pretty soon, we're expected to show up for school...every day every day every day..and remember how hard you thought that was?????

A recent study in the Cincinnati school district revealed that students NOT showing up was costing the district in excess of 3 million dollars per year, so the schools there began handing out video games, DVDs, even bicycles and computers to kids with perfect attendance.

All through our school years, we're begged, threatened, cajoled, and rewarded just for showing up there.and many of us still fight it all the way...

After the school years, there's work and the military....now I don't need to tell anyone how serious the military is about wanting you to show up..as a matter of fact, the consequences of NOT showing up can be as mild as a chewing out or as severe as a firing squad....
