On The Bright Side

Life is a beautiful struggle. If it were easy it would be no fun. We always hope for the best but sometimes things don't always turn out that way. I feel that over the years, life itself teaches you to be more appreciative of things. With that being said, I try to be optimistic about situations. Life has thrown me many curve balls, but I feel that the way I handle certain situations definitely helped me get through them.

Soccer has always been a big part of my life. I've been playing since I could kick a ball. I've always dreamed of being recognized and playing in college. That opportunity came at the Dupage Varsity Conference Semi-Finals. I was captain of the Glenbard East Girls Varsity team. It was my junior year and we were playing our rivals, Naperville North High School. I couldn't even believe we made it to the semi-finals! My palms were sweaty, my heart was racing, and my adrenaline was pumping.

It was game time! The opportunity that I have dreamed about was here.

The referee blew his whistle and the kickoff started. The game was pretty much being played like keep away the first couple of minutes. It was around the sixth minute when our stopper, Lily, had cleared the ball from our defense and towards the center of the field. I sprinted towards the ball and had a breakaway. I took my shot and missed. I wasn't too upset. We were still under ten minutes into the game. I knew I would have more opportunities to score anyways, or at least I thought.

After I took my shot at the goal, I was running back into position. The ball was nowhere near me at this point. The goalkeeper punted...
