The film "8 Mile" is about the life struggles of an upcoming aspiring teenage rapper named Jimmy also known as Rabbit.. His neighborhood is very poverty stricken and most buildings are condemned with gang graffiti written on them. The only businesses in this neighborhood that were open are gun stores, gun ranges and liquor stores. Most of the houses are vacant also. Rabbits lives in a trailer park with his mom, her boyfriend and his young sister Lilly. They are constantly being threaten with being evicted due to non-payment of rent.
Rabbit's mom is a stereotypical welfare mom. Dating young men, she drinks a lot, uses bad language in front of her very young daughter Lilly, and is often drunk in front of Lilly also. This family lives in the slum area of Detroit and they are dreadfully poor. Rabbit's mom is just barely fit to be a mom.

wink smilieHowever, she does have a good side that appeared twice during the movie. She does care for her children and on occasion actually talks and behaves like some of the best moms in society. In fact, in an attempt to live a better life she couples up a man in hopes he will marry her and take her and Lilly away from the life of poverty they are in and move them into a big brick house with a picket fence.
Meanwhile Rabbit has dreams cutting a demo record deal and becoming rich and famous. He does have talent and many good friends, but he also has several bad freinds. In his quest to be rich and famous, he doesn't see how his friend Wink and his girlfriend Alex is using him. Rabbit and his 5 best friend have a group called three one third. There's also rival rapper squad called Leaders of the Free world. They have more money and appear to be in a higher social class than Three One Third. The only thing that mater to both of these groups is rapping and winning rap contests. Their is a club called, The Shelter; everyone goes their and The shelter host rap battle contests. This is a very important event to Rabbit his group and to the other rival group. All the teenagers, wannabe rappers and fans of rap come out in the thousands to view these contests. Everyone wants to win these battles for recognition, prestige and honor among their peers. Thhhe story focuses on two main points, one is Rabbit's life and the other is the rap contests at The Shelter.
After many struggles in Rabbit's life he overcome a lot of terrible diverse isuses with his mom, girlfrind, and male freinds. He pulls himself tighter and summons up the courage to get in the rap battles; he eventually wins by defeating the champion from the Leaders of the free world. The story ends.
In the beginning Rabbit was scared to rap at the shelter, so scared that the thought of it made him thrown up his dinner. He still went out on stage but when it was his turn to rap, he couldn't utter a word and was booed off the stage. Rabbit's best friend is Future and he is the main reason rabbit had won thwe contest. Future was always pushing rabbit to rap in front of small crowds and future was the host at the shelter and would always sign Rabbit up in the rap contests without Rabbits permission. Rabbit evntully turned of future for always pushing him into rapping infront of people aand they fall apart for a while, but the day of the last battle Rabbit went to Future and apologized.
Alex was Rabbit's girlfriend she attached herself to him when she realized he had talent and she thought he was cutting a demo deal. She was obvisly using him but he didn't see it. She also had dreams of becoming a model and would do anything to attain that goal.
Rabbit had another friend named Wink, who claimed to be a talent agent; meaning he had the connections to make anyone a star. Rabbit believed this and so did Alex. Future tired to no avail to convince Rabbit that Wink was a double crossing, and deceiving person. Wink constantly stirred up conflict between the two rival groups. He also led Alex to others who used her for her body. Finally Rabbit caught Wink having sex with Alex. Rabbit beat Wink up and in return Wink got the rival group to beat up Rabbit.
