What are the benefits of a Solar Panel and how does it work?

My hypothesis for the question was:

I thought the benefits of a solar panel would be to save money and have something that worked without electricity when I went camping. I thought a solar panel worked when it heated up from the sun causing pressure to make a motor turn.

Materials:

For my project I used a solar panel, two stands, a motor, and a propeller.

Procedure:

1. I placed the propeller on the axle of the motor.

2. Next, I attached both stands to the motor.

3. Then, I connected both wires from the solar panel to the two outlets on the motor.

4. Lastly, I placed the solar panel under a light bulb and let it charge and I repeated the experiment using natural sunlight.

Observation:

When I first hooked up the solar panel to the fan motor it wouldn't work.

I observed that the solar panel needed to charge up first. I did this by placing the solar panel under a light bulb, because the sun wasn't out. After a few moments the fan began to turn clockwise. The next day, I repeated the same procedure only using real sun light and the fan began to turn almost immediately. When I reversed the wire leads attached to the fan motor it made the fan turn counter clockwise. That is what I observed.

Body:

After doing some research I learned the answer to my questions. For the question - What are the benefits of a solar panel and how does it work? Surprisingly enough solar panels create an energy source (electricity) without causing air pollution. Solar power is also free energy from the sun. Another benefit of a solar panel is that it is not...
