What are some of the similarities and differences between the films Emma and Clueless?

The movie 'clueless' directed by Amy Heckerlings is the modern version of the Jane Austin's movie 'Emma'. Although there are many similarities, there are also many differences. One of the obvious difference is that 'clueless' is set in the present Beverly Hills, California and 'Emma' is set in Highbury in 19th century England.

One of the main similarities in these two movies is that they have the same story line. Both movies are about a young girl, who has lost her mother and lives with her loving father. The main characters in both movies change throughout the movie. Both characters always like people, who are wealthy like them. They do not like people, who are not rich. "Don't know why Dionne is going out with a high school boy. They're like dogs. You have to clean them and feed them and they're just like these nervous creatures that jump and slobber all over you".

They also learn many things from their experiences and mistakes. "Not a total betty, but a vast improvement". (Dionne to Cher) Both characters realise that making other people's life better is not going to gain them anything. "The most beautiful thing in the world is match well made and a happy marriage to you both" (Emma to Miss Taylor)One of the things that have a great effect on the main character in both movies is 'The match making'. One of the similarities is that the main characters in these two movies think of themselves as 'matchmakers'. The main character Cher in the movie 'clueless' tries to do a project by matching people together. After successfully match making two of her teachers, Mr Hall and Miss Giest together, she tries to match make Tai and Elton together. "Will you look at that body language? Legs...
