In the story of Sophocles there are few things that I liked and didn't. First, the image of Oedipus is admireable. Secondly the way he talks about his hunger to avenge his father's death. On the other hand, I didn't like how he was destined to sleep with his mother and how he blamed Kreon.

The first thing that I liked in the story was how the people looked up to him. Yes sure he was a king in the people's eyes, but he had an image to work with the gods. The countrymen had assurances that if anything went wrong they could always go to the great Oedipus for help. For example, in the beginning of the story a group of citizens approach him and ask for his help. Another thing that I liked in the story was his hunger for his father's vengeance. His only thought is to find the killer of his father and slay him.

He goes on to tell people if they run into his father's slayer, not to associate with him. Oedipus soon finds out that he murdered his father not knowing who he was. The possibly could be the doom to his reputation if the people who admired him realize this. I surely would be outraged.

There were a few things that I didn't like in the story. First and foremost, Oedipus slept with his mother. That just doesn't sit right in my mind. Maybe to some then that sounds ok. The fact that the women whom gave you birth, you had sex with is just shocking to me. I can't see how one would not know if it were your mother or not.
