I believe Soren Kierkegaard was a great Philosopher but insane. I will show what makes him a great Philosopher and why I like him the best.

Soren Kierkegaard was born in 1813 in Copenhagen. Kierkegaard was considered insane by most standards. In most of the history books, a lot of philosophers were insane from syphilis. Kierkegaard was mostly influenced by his father. As a child he was mentally abused by his father. This helped him develop his intensive imagination to escape. In school he learned to defend himself with sarcasm. Although Philosophy was not his first choice it became his life.

He went to the University of Copenhagen to study theology. This is when he got into the world of Philosophy. Hegel was his first mentor into though not directly but through his work. Hegel believed everything had a thesis, antithesis and a synthesis. Kierkegaard liked this view. He loved Hegel but at the same time hated him.

Kierkegaard was a religious man but would often curse God for forsaking him.

In 1836 he contemplated suicide. His life turned around in 1838 when his father died. He became a wealthy young man. His father wanted him to become a pastor but he did not want this but now that his father was dead and he was rich he took the final exams.

He became infatuated with a girl named Regine. He loved her but could not live a normal life so he broke off the engagement. He devoted himself to philosophy, God and writing. He moved to Berlin. He attended lectures given by the Philosopher Schelling. There were several other audience members trying to dismiss the teachings of Hegel. Kierkegaard thought Schelling did not understand Hegel and stopped going to his lectures.
