When attempting to acquire a group of employees with the necessary skills required to work together to make the organization better then the sum of its parts, understanding the importance of human capital is tremendously important. Given today's economic slowdown organizations have no trouble establishing a large pool of applicants to choose from. This paper will create a staffing plan for a company by the name of Gold Canyon, as well as how many employees will need to be recruited for each department. Finally, a strategy will be given to ensure qualified applicants are recruited for the available positions.

It is up to the human resources (HR) department to identify the abilities and potential of these applicants in order to fulfill the human capital needs of the organization. Human capital refers to the organizations employees in terms of experience, training, intelligence, relationships and insight. It is equally important for HR managers to insure that the selection process, and tests used are not unfairly biased against and groups.

"Forecasting is the attempt to determine the supply of and demand for various types of human resources to predict areas within the organization where there will be labor shortages or surpluses" (p. 136)Gold Canyon is a highly recognized company known for their high quality scented candles. Gold Canyon will be opening a new department warehouse in San Jose, Ca where candles and other products such as skin care and beauty will be distributed to other cities.
