HOW DOES THE USE OF FRACTURED NARRATIVE BUILD SYMPATHY AND CREATE TENSION IN 'TALKING IN WHISPERS' RAF4 AND RAF6

Fractured narrative is what the author James Watson uses in the book Talking in Whispers. A technique of fractured narrative that is used in this book would be narrative voice. It is use to create sympathy since it jumps from a third person omniscient narrator to a first person narrator to give us a better understanding of the characters situation. Another feature would be the use of flashbacks. This creates sympathy and tension because it's used to fill up the characters past and also it is used for pitiful moments it creates tension. Watson uses a technique of narrative voice and jumps from an omniscient narrator to a first person perspective narrator. Some exam Watson does this to create sympathy and even tension at times. He also chooses to use this feature because it might impact the emotional intensity and make emotions a bit jarring at times.

Examples of this would be on page 37 when this is quoted "He was trouble. He knew it. He understood...I am an outcast". Another example of narrative voice would be on page 13 when it randomly jumps back to the first person's perspective "I must get to San Jose, fast". The quote from page 37 has tones of disappointment, understanding and brutal honesty all at once. The omniscient narrator sets a depressing mood of harsh and cold reality thereby creating sympathy for the character Andres. As for the quote on page 13, it creates tones of tension and desperation. This makes it sound like the matter is very pressing and urgent and at the same time it also creates tones of being hopeful. Watson uses setting change as a technique of fractured...
