Terrorism at its Worst

-Main Causes of Terrorism in the U.S.

-The belief that the United States has "colonized" the Arab world to protect U.S. access to oil.

-The presence of American troops in Saudi Arabia during the Gulf War; the birthplace of the Prophet Muhammad

-Supporting authoritarian governments in the Middle East while promoting democracy

-World Trade Center Bombing:

-February 26, 1993

-Ramzi Yousef planted a car bomb in the underground the first tower of the World Trade Center

-Expected to prevent smoke from escaping the towers, therefore, catching the public eye by poisoning people inside. Then foresaw Tower One collapsing onto Tower Two after the blast would occur.

-The explosion left 6 people dead, and at least 1,040 others injured.

-Oklahoma City bombing

-9:02 AM on April 19, 1995

-Truck bomb explodes on the outskirts of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

-Direct result of Timothy McVeigh's plan to "wake up America" to the danger of the government/ avenge the deaths of the Branch Davidians, whom he believed were murdered by agents of the federal government.

-Terry Nichols was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter/conspiring with McVeigh.

-Escaped the death penalty because the jury failed to reach a unanimous verdict on whether he was planning an attack "with the intent to kill."

-Killed 168 people and injured 800, making it one of the deadliest terrorist attacks in United States history.

-9/11/2001

-19 members of the Al-Queda regime high jacked 4 commercial aircraft, crashing 2 into the World Trade Center

-The end result proceeded in a death toll of nearly 3,000, more than the 2,400 casualties on Pearl Harbor.
