Have we changed from our original state of view or have we stayed the same as time moved without us? No, we have changed just as well as time has. Humanity's view of mankind and the universe around them has seldom remained constant for more than a generation or two. New technology reveals new aspects of the physical universe, and new ideas reveal the same in the human mind. One example of such is the difference between the views of humankind and the universe from the late 17th century as compared to those of the late 19th century. Both were great times of change in Europe, yet the ideas that came about were completely different, reflecting an advance in both the physical and humanitarian sciences. In the late 17th century, the big names in science and philosophy were Newton and Locke, respectively. Locke wrote that human nature was generally good, that government was for the good of the people, that humans had certain "natural rights" that should not be controlled by governments, and that true knowledge was that which could be experienced.

Times have changed dramatically in the past thirty years. The style of living, the sizes of families, and education have all changed dramatically. During the fifties, sixties, and most of the early seventies teenagers were thinking about going off to war or starting a family. Very few teenagers coming out of high school were thinking about college. Slowly as times started to change, more and more people were going off to college. Today at the end of the nineties, very few people do not go off to college. Instead of high school students thinking about starting families or going off to war, they have a bigger decision to make.
