The following is a transcript of Conan O'Brien's interview of JK Rowling on Late Night with Conan O'Brien. It takes place on November 17th, 2005.

Conan: Please welcome my next guest, who is the world famous author of the Harry Potter series, Jo Rowling.

Jo: Thanks for having me.

No thank you for flying out here and bothering with this crazy show.

I was coming anyway for the Goblet of Fire premier tomorrow.

Well just jump into the subject why don't you.

Sorry.

No, uh, your books are quite famous. They make tons of money and you're richer than the Queen of England now. What have you done with the money they have made?

"My favourite material thing [I have purchased] is our house in the north of Scotland, where it is very peaceful and we have a lot of fun with family and friends ("Biography")."

But you are big with the charities as well though aren't you?

Yeah, I give a lot to children's charities as well as ones that help with multiple sclerosis which my mum died of.

After your mom died, you went through a rough time in your life. Tell us what it was like.

Well, "Nine months later, desperate to get away for a while, I left for Portugal, where I had got a job teaching English in a language institute. I took with me the still-growing manuscript of Harry Potter, hopeful that my new working hours (I taught in the afternoon and evening) would lend themselves to pressing on with my novel, which had changed a lot since my mother had died. Now, Harry's feelings about his dead parents had become much deeper, much more real.
