The Hobbit I. Information about the book a. The title of my book is "The Hobbit". The book is about a hobbit and 13 dwarves. This hobbit's name is Bilbo Baggins, and he lives in Hobbiton.

c. The author of "The Hobbit" is John Ronald Reuel Tolkien. Tolkien was born on January 3, 1892, in Bloemfontein, South Africa. After serving in the First World War, he decided to take up an academic career. He studied Anglo-Saxon at Oxford, Pembroke College, and Merton College and retired in 1959. He also wrote "Lord of the Rings". Tolkien died on September 2, 1973 at the age of 81.

II. Description of the genre of the book a. The genre of my book is a fantasy.

III. Settings a. The setting changes many times during our hero's adventure. From the Hobbit's home to the Dragons cave, our heroes find them selves in cave, fields, and valleys.

The setting doesn't effect the character's choices other than having to follow a map.

IV. Main Characters a. Bilbo Baggins: is the main character of the story. He is a hobbit who prefers the silence of his house to adventure, but he is tricked by Gandalf and a group of dwarves to take a journey. Bilbo is not a hero, but as the story goes on he changes into a clever and brave hero. Throughout the book, he thinks of his home but performs the tasks stated in his contract with Gandalf and the dwarves. His greatest achievement is finding a ring which makes him invisible.

Gandalf: is a wizard who appears in The Hobbit occasionally. Gandalf is a friend of Bilbo's mother, Belladonna Took, and he brings together the Bilbo and the dwarves that begin the adventure.
