CHAN, VERNE 85 Years- Died on September 28, 2004 at Prince of Wales Hospital in Hong Kong. Beloved husband of Jennifer. Beloved father of Raymond and Clara. Dear brother of Kenny and Freeman. Dear brother-in-law of Richard and Winston. Verne was a Vice President of Finance Operations for PCCW Limited (Pacific Century Cyber Works Ltd.), the largest telecommunication enterprise in Hong Kong. He was well-known with his many successful business plans that helped in the continuous growth and expansion of PCCW. He will forever be a business icon in the company to many others.

Verne Chan was born Wei-Lai Chan on September 29, 1988, to Daniel and Emily Chan, in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital of Hong Kong. The eldest of four children, Verne graduated from Earl Haig Secondary School with honourable mention along with a community service award and business certificate in 2006. He was accepted into York University's Schulich School of Business and graduated in 2012 with a MBA in Finance.

After graduation, Verne found a job working as an accounting clerk in a computer networking enterprise. He was not there for long when the company was bankrupt a year later due to low revenue and huge debts. As a result, he became one of the 500 unfortunate employees to be fired. Desperate for a job, Verne then turned his eyes on the education sector. He became a business teacher at his old school, Earl Haig Secondary School, and worked there for 4 years. During which he became assistant Head of the Business Department and was a co-ordinator for the school's business club, DECA. Unfortunately, school life started to bore him after that four years and he resigned, saying goodbye to his alma mater for the second time in his career.
