A Look at What Really Matters
In a lifetime, one will encounter many problems and issues. However, not all of these problems and issues would matter to them in their whole life. "Walk Two Moons" by Sharon Creech, is an intriguing novel about a teenage girl named Sal, who takes a road trip with her grandparents. Along the way, she tells the story of her friend, Phoebe, who received anonymous messages on her doorstep. One of these messages was "In the course of a lifetime, what does it matter?". This message connects to the characters in the novel, such as Margaret Cadaver, Prudence Winterbottom, and the sheriff.
On one hand, Margaret Cadaver experienced a tragedy, which affected her whole life. As the story states, "Her husband dying and her mother being blinded were events that would matter over the course of a lifetime" (Creech 220).

Walk Two MoonsIn this passage, Sal is thinking about Margaret's difficulties. Her husband had died and her mother was blinded in a car accident. Things like accidents have a potential effect on people's lives. It affects not only the person that was involved in the accident, but also alters the lives of others around them in some way. Margaret would never be capable of forgetting about the accident, because every time she would look or talk to her mother, she would notice her blindness and remember it. She might feel horrid, as she could not save her husband, since she was the nurse in the ER when her husband and mother came in. Margaret's difficulties show that there are things in life that really matter.
