What are the primary job responsibilities of a Webmaster?

A Webmaster creates and maintains a website for an company or organization. The primary responsibility of a Webmaster is to assure one hundred percent functionality of a website at all times. If an Webmaster's site goes down it is his/her responsibility to restore its functionality a.s.a.p. If the website needs vital functionality or design changes it is the responsibility of the Webmaster to implement them in a timely manner.

In what areas is the average Webmaster competent?

Webmasters need several core skills to be successful.

-Writing

Most sites require someone to create the mission statement, write copy for products, articles, newsletters, and respond to customer inquiries. A good Webmaster is articulate and well spoken.

-Graphic Designing

A good site works well; a great site works and looks fantastic! In order to be a successful Webmaster you must have a good eye for design and color-scheme.

-Web Developing

A great Webmaster can take someone's ideas and change them into code. The most important aspect of a web page is its functionality, "Does it work?" as a Webmaster, its your job to make sure it does.

Are there Webmaster training centers?

Yes most colleges offer Web mastery training. Many vocational schools also offer it.

There are many places for Webmasters to find a job. One of the best is probably the Internet! Any new companies or organizations that seek representation on the Internet will be looking for a Webmaster to build and maintain their website.

How should one develop his/her web-store?

The design of a web-store needs to be straightforward and simple. Hopefully many people will be using it and that means that it needs to be simple and not confusing. An easy to use and attractive layout is the best bet for any Webmaster building an e-commerce site.

What is web hosting?

Web hosting is the act of renting space and bandwidth through a company so that you may publish your web site online.

You can either opt for free hosting that is usually supported with banners and pop ups, or may opt to get paid web hosting, which gives you complete control over your site contents.

How do payment transactions work?

1. Authentication. It's a good idea to make sure the cards you are accepting have valid numbers, have actually been issued, and are not reported stolen.

2. Authorization. This process checks whether funds are available for purchases. If they are, you can put reservations on those funds. But hold on -- you don't get the money yet.

3. Settlement. Once you've shipped the products or delivered them to the customers, then you let the banks know. The banks will release the funds that were previously reserved, and the money will make its way through numerous banks and intermediaries into your account.
