Wino

One cold winter night, I was walking home from the corner store when I noticed an old wino walking toward me. He had the smell of urine all over him and was dressed in an old camouflage jacket that had US Army written on the chest pocket. There were two more of them coming up fast, as if I was their last chance for a meal. I remember the building that I was next to. It had gang symbols painted all over it and the windows were all boarded up. I remember how scary all of this was, how the smell became over whelming, and I had no place to run. My heart started beating 100 miles an hour and I could feel the fear radiating from my body. The building itself seemed to be calling and saying, "slow down take a deep breath and calm down". In the distance, I could hear the sound of my Dad calling my name and from behind I could hear the sound of footsteps coming up fast.

I felt a cold shiver go up my spine and into my body as I realized I was about to be robbed.

Suddenly, the footsteps stopped. I turned around to see what was going on. In the distance I could see a police car driving up, and so did the winos. Without thinking my feet started moving faster than they ever had before, I could have run the 100-yard dash in less than 9 seconds. Bang, Slam, Crash is the sound I heard as I was falling in slow motion to the ground. I had plunged into some trashcans on the sidewalk. My heart was pounding like a jackhammer and I could hear the winos getting closer as I was lifting myself up off the...
