  • Not even 50% effective

Do you know any more humanitarian ways to keep criminals out of trouble? Your essay showed little understanding of criminology or psychology. Some of the methods have been tried and disagreed with through large-scale studies. If you believe they are effective you must justify them with sources.

  • Mathematics in New Zealand

I thought this was going to be so Piagetian, regarding cognitive development in mathematics for children. I'm surprised that only 18% all over the world have a high self-concept for maths, and also that many of the tests don't seem to teach higher-level skills. It's a very good and concise essay on mathematics developments, especially in the area of teaching, all over the world. I was not familiar with many of the studies, but I am sure most if not all are widely accessible for those interested. They are relatively current and up-to-date and they sound authoriatitive.

  • Excellent analysis

This analysis of the Internet really shows the medium in context with other communications media and with global commercialism. As an essay, it presents its argument thoughtfully and responsibly. The ethical considerations are worthy of Information Technology. Some of the historical points could be fleshed out and explained to clarify points relating to the Net today and in the future. What about research on a few outsiders as well as those recognised as having shaped the Net (the writer mentions Gates, but not Berners-Lee, or the person who did hypertext).

  • "Magdalena" by Steven Osmont

Reasonably good analysis of the story. It is not made especially clear whether these are first hand accounts or fictional stories. Also, the writer's interpretation shows through even though period is generally kept to. There are good links and citations, and the essay hangs together well. The focus is on Magdalena and her husband as representatives of mediedeval Europe in the 1600s. One small comment about the parenting style-love is one part, not the whole thing. Also I don't know if the analysis of the parenting and the marriages is quite with the social criticism I would expect from this level of university. The writer must check his or her primary sources to supplement their analysis.

  • "Male Authority-Female Resistance"

The opening sentence in the second and third paragraphs sounds like it was cribbed from one of the works cited. The grammar and the evidence are reasonable, but there is little sense of why "The Lottery" is important and relevant in explaining female resistance within a patriarchical society. It is also largely incomprehensible for someone who hasn't read the short story or any of the author's work.

  • Development of Aggression

The sources used seem to be authoritative, and the author has adequately used evidence to build up their argument. According to the author, various biological and social influences develop aggression. These include, prominently: modelling from parents and from the X-Men which are a television show. I do not agree that this aggression is in a good way. If it shows good people doing bad things, it is still aggression and therefore the diversity of children will respond to it in ways that might not be acceptable and therefore develop their attitudes towards aggression.
