Yeah the essay was excellent but you are not supposed to use "document x" in a sentence. if you need to refer to a document you have refer to what the document talks about and in the margin or in parentheses include the document letter.

although the essay was excellent, you neglected to include a key point to the cause of the crusades... Urban II partly started the crusades because of wars between european countries. He reasoned that instead of fighting amongst themselves, why not get back Jerusalem from the Muslims...
