Adolf Hitler was born on the 20th of April 1889. He was the fourth child of a fifty two year old man named Alois Schickelgruber and a young lady named Klara Poelzl, in Braunau, Austria. He was an angry, unhappy, lazy and moody child who didn't like his father because of his strict ways. His father died in the year of 1903 and Adolf's mother who he loved dearly died in the year of 1907 from the cause of breast cancer.

At the age of sixteen (being at school for four years) he left with dreams of becoming a painter. He went to Vienna in October 1907 to try to get in to an academy of arts. He got rejected by Viennese Academy of Fine Arts in 1908, and stayed in Vienna painting pictures of buildings and also writing poetry until 1913.

In 1913 he left to go to Munich and when war broke in 1914, he joined the Sixteenth Bavarian Infantry Regiment, serving as a despatch runner.

Hitler was a bit of a loner in the army, but Hitler showed bravery and courage and received the iron cross (a medal) for bravery. After the war he was badly wounded and spent three months in hospital in Pomerania. He was cheesed off when the war had ended and stayed in the army. In 1919 he was assigned by his German armed forces to spy on other political parties. Hitler was sent to to investigate the German Workers Party, a small nationalistic group of idealists. On the 16th of September 1919 he entered the party which had forty members and then changed the name to National Socialist German Workers Party (NSDAP) and became chairman in the year of July 1921. By November he named himself Fuhrer with 3,000 members.
