HR Roles and Responsibilities

Human resources (HR) has come a long way in the business world in a relative short amount of time. The management of HR takes much forethought, focus, and vision to run the department efficiently. This paper will show the response of HR to the trends in globalization, technology, diversity, e-business, and ethics.

Globalization

The HR department has many roles within an organization. HR needs to be consistent with the upper management concerning the business strategies and objectives. HR has grown with the world and become more diversified and cultural. They can help the company stay competitive globally by staying in sync with today's world and anticipating what the new trends in globalization and business may bring. By welcoming diversity and different cultures, religions, and ethnicities, the organization is welcoming different strengths, ideas, and visions that can boost the organization past its competitors.

"Additionally, the expansion of companies into foreign markets has created the need for managing human resources from an international perspective. People no longer live and work in an insular marketplace; they are now part of a worldwide economy with competition coming from nearly every continent" (Green, Kepner, López, & Wysocki, 2002, P.2).

Technology

HR can benefit from technology in many ways. Technology has created different systems, programs, equipment, and software that can help HR professionals become more efficient. . "Human resource information system (HRIS), a computer system used to acquire, store, manipulate, analyze, retrieve, and distribute information related to an organizations human resources" (Gerhert, Hollenbeck, Noe, & Wright, 2003, P.1).
