A political party is a group organized to support certain policies or questions of public interest. These issues could be of peace, war, tax, how people earn their money, and more. For example, tax is one of the most important issues facing Americans today. Do we tax higher or lower? Parties give their own views on each discussion and the people vote for the side they believe in.

Many people support political parties and many do not. Our first President of the U.S. George Washington said to beware of "Faction" in his Farewell Address. Some opposed and others agreed, this lead to the creation of the two most important political parties ever created, the Democrats and the Republicans. Both groups hsve their likes and dislikes and the people's vote helps resolve the conflict.

The oldest political party is the Federalist, which was lead by Alexander Hamilton in 1796. As usual, people argued their beliefs and surrounded themselves around a man named Thomas Jefferson and called their new party the Democratic-Republicans.

The start of this rebellion has lasted until now and has had a great impact throughout America.

The central person in the democratic-Republican Party was Thomas Jefferson. Thomas Jefferson was born on April 14th 1743 in his fathers home in Albemarle county Virginia. He had two older sisters whose names were Jane and Mary. Tom was very close to his sisters and then tragedy struck when Jane had died at the age of twenty-five. His mother Jane Randolph belonged to one of the most powerful families in Virginia. Tom's father was a well known frontiersman and carried out duties that were well respected by others.
