Courage This quarter we been reading the book To Kill a Mocking Bird by Harper Lee, and this past week we watched the movie Philadelphia. In each of them the characters show a lot of courage. In the book To Kill a Mocking Bird, Atticus Finch showed courage defending Tom Robinson. Also in the book Gem showed courage going back to get his pants from the Radley's house. In the movie Philadelphia Andy shows courage by suing his company.

In the book To Kill a Mocking Bird, Atticus Finch is defending Tom Robinson, a black man, of rape charges. Atticus knew that he wouldn't win the case. He knew people wouldn't like him for defending a black man. He still did it anyways because it was the right thing to do. Doing the right thing is not always the popular thing to do but he still did it.

That shows a lot of courage by him.

Gem showed courage when he went back to the Radley's house to get his pants. He was very scared of the Radley's. The Radley's were scary people. They haven't been out of their house in years and people think they eat cats. So going back to get his pants was very brave.

In the movie Philadelphia the main character Andy sued his company for firing him because he was gay. The company said it was because he wasn't a good worker. He was dieing of aids but he still showed up to the trials. During the trials he knew they would bring up embarrassing things Andy did during his life that he didn't want other people to know about. He still went through with it. That shows courage.

Both the book To Kill a Mocking Bird and the movie Philadelphia displayed a lot of courage. In the book Atticus showed courage by defending Tom Robinson. Gem was brave and went back to get his pants from the Radley's house. In the movie Andy was courageous by suing his company. Both the movie and the book were good.
