Alexander the Great was born on July 20, 356 B.C.E. to the Macedonian king, Philip II and to the strong-minded, Olympias. Growing up Alexander received the finest tutoring possible. He was tutored by men who essentially provided him with crucial tools to become the best. They taught him the skills of philosophy, politics, literature, healing and ethics. These fundamental studies heightened to the superb qualities Alexander possessed. From a child Alexander dreamed of more. He wished to succeed and that is exactly what he did, aspiring to be the greatest leader and military man of that time. His virtues and basic qualities led him to conquer in twelve years most of the ancient world that was known. He was able to maintain power over this great amount of territory and one of the largest empires that has ever existed. He had unbelievable leadership skills and charisma. No one in history could have done what he accomplished.

A great man, Theodore M. Hesburgh once said "The very essence of leadership is that you have to have vision. You can't blow an uncertain trumpet." Alexander had exactly that vision. From a child he wished to conquer and dreamed of glory. It is said that after his father captured a city he stated "My father will have everything and I will have nothing left to conquer!" His ambition at a young age is one of the factors which led him to conquer Asia. He did not decide to conquer Asia in a day. Every important happening in his life brought him one step closer to fulfilling his vision.

Every leader needs to prove he is actually a leader. A leader needs to be confident and show that he will not falter. At the age of 20, Alexander became king of Macedonia with the...
